Every Gastronomic Break with Riva promises you wonderful food and drink in superb surroundings, and the rest of the time you can relax and see the sights. But for those with other interests, who like the sound of combining a specialist break with a great gastronomic experience, Riva offers a range of Dual Breaks. These notes here just give you a flavour - see our separate Itinerary Sheets for full details.

Gastronomic and Culture Break
We offer a choice of two - one based in the centre of Turin, and one in the beautiful countryside of the nearby Langhe region. These short breaks really show you the full range of cultural delights in and around Turin - in between wonderful lunches and dinners, of course! As well as the historic sights of the city itself, we will visit the fantastic Saturday market in the ancient village of Alba, the pretty town of Bra, and the village of La Morra. With visits to vineyards along the way, and great osterias and restaurants to keep your strength up, either will be a memorable visit.

Gastronomic and Painting Break
A long weekend for beginners and improvers in watercolour - plus some fantastic food and wine too! Small classes mean students can benefit from one-to-one tuition by a professional painter and illustrator, allowing you to develop your painting and drawing skills. There is no shortage of beautiful locations to sketch and paint in Piemonte, and sensitive, individual tuition will help you develop your visual awareness, confidence, technique and expression. All watercolour materials and equipment are provided.

Gastronomic and Walking Break
The perfect opportunity to indulge in the finest food and wine that Piemonte can offer and then burn off a few calories on a walk in the beautiful countryside. We offer a range of walks, of all levels from a gentle stroll to a serious hike, at all times of the year. You can even try snowshoes in the winter. We will transport your luggage from one hotel to another, professional guides will accompany you, and there will be opportunities to visit vineyards, local attractions and, of course, some fantastic restaurants - each itinerary is individually tailored.

Gastronomic and Opera Break
Indulge your love of great food, fine wine and classic opera on our long weekend in Turin, where you will attend a performance at the famous Teatro Regio di Torino. Founded in 1740, the original building was destroyed by fire in 1936, but the full restoration has resulted in excellent acoustics and a fine auditorium. The Theatre has a wide programme of events, so depending on when you choose to visit, there may be opera, ballet or drama. This really is a relaxing city-centre Break, including visits to some of Turin's most famous restaurants and chocolate shops.

Gastronomic and Cookery Break
Not only will you enjoy eating and drinking the finest fare Piemonte has to offer, but you can try your hand at cooking it too! This break includes three days working with a renowned chef in his award-winning restaurant near Turin. The lessons are tailor made to suit your level of expertise and ambition, but everyone will learn to make one starter, one pasta dish, one main course and a selection of puddings. In addition, you will visit a cheese farm, explore where truffles are found and attend local wine tasting. The fourth day is free to relax and recover!
